English (india) and Indian Rupee (₹) symbol in your keyboard

Symptoms:

Ctrl+Alt+4 not working?  ₹

Assume that you add the Rupee supplement (KB2496899) to an English Windows 7 image to support new Indian keyboards that contains Rupee symbols. In this situation, the English (India) keyboard is not listed after you select India for the locale during the Windows Setup phase.

To apply this update, you must be running one of the following operating systems:

• Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2)
• Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2)
• Windows 7
• Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
• Windows Server 2008 R2
• Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

 

To select the English (India) keyboard, follow these steps:

1. In Control Panel, click Clock, Language, and Region, and then click Change keyboards or other input methods.
2. On the Region and Language screen, click Change keyboard on the Keyboards and Languages tab.
3. On the Text Services and Input Languages screen, click Add.
4. On the Add Input Language screen select English (India), and then select the India keyboard checkbox.
